Pawlak and Petersen Win GAM/Dunham's Drawing

Steve Pawlak (Clarkston) and Doug Petersen (West Bloomfield) are the two winners of the GAM Refer-a-Friend drawing. Both received Taylor Made R11 drivers, 3 woods and 5 woods courtesy of Dunham’s Sports.  Pawlak is a GAM member through Bald Mountain and referred a friend to the GAM. Petersen is a brand new GAM member who heard about the GAM from one of his pals.

Pawlak and Petersen stopped by the Madison Heights Dunham’s  on Monday to pick up their winnings. Pawlak, who just bought new clubs this spring, decided he is going to donate his prize to the Golf for St. Jude outing at Oakhurst Golf & Country Club later this month.

“It’s a good cause and I thought it would be nice to donate them,” said Pawlak.

Pawlak, who has been a GAM member steadily for the past six years and off and on for longer than that, referred three of his friends to the GAM.

“We are pretty adamant about getting our handicaps right when we are playing so I thought with the promo thought Dunham’s there was no better time to sign up than now,” said Pawlak.  “Putting is my best talent. I can drive the ball far but not very straight so my short game and putting is what keeps my handicap in the single digits.”

Petersen heard about the GAM from one of his golf buddies and decided to sign up. He needed to get an official GAM/USGA handicap index but when he found out about all of the other perks that come with being a GAM member, that is what sold him on the membership.

“I already played in a GAM Golf Day and it was a lot of fun,” said Petersen. “And the card and the discounts that you get on individual golf courses every day are well worth the price of membership.”

Petersen was thinking about getting a new driver and woods when he found out he was one of the winners of the Taylor Made R11s. When he picked up his clubs from Dunham’s he also had them fitted at the store’s Fairway Center.

“My clubs are five or six years old so this will be a nice improvement,” said Petersen. “And being able to adjust them to your swing is great. I used to live around the corner from this Dunham’s so I already knew it is a great facility for finding new clubs and fine tuning them. I think I will be able to get more distance and more consistency now.”

Dunham’s District Manager Lou Garcia says golfers like Petersen have helped grow the Dunham’s Fairway Centers.

“The Fairway Center was a concept to increase awareness because a lot of people did not think Dunham’s could take care of their golf needs,” said Garcia. “It took off and now we are expanding it to all of our stores.”

All Fairway Centers have a person on staff who can fit clubs and who has extensive knowledge about golf equipment. The Fairway Centers are fully stocked year round and can accommodate all golf needs including shoes, clothing, equipment and accessories.

“We feel golf is a very important part of our business and we donate a sizable about of space in our store to golf,” said Garcia.

“We have stores across Michigan and have several locations in the Upper Peninsula and in the Petoskey and Alpena area. Everyone from southeastern Michigan travels north to go golfing in the summer and I think they can stop at a Dunham’s every 50 miles or so!”
