PGA Tour Wives, Buick Open Team Up for Children's Event

2009 Buick OpenGRAND BLANC - The PGA Tour Wives Association will team up with the Buick Open for a day of blooming fun at the Whaley Children’s Center on Wednesday, July 29. The Association members and kids from the Center will enjoy a morning of decorating keepsake flower pots and two giant pots for future fundraising, as well as help plant a tree presented by the Buick Open.

“We are delighted to welcome some of the player wives to enjoy some creative fun with the kids,” said Tricia Reinhard, interim president and CEO for Whaley Children’s Center. “With the planting of the tree, it is a testament to this special moment that celebrates our partnership with the Buick Open and PGA Tour.”

Reinhard will join Association members and 40 kids between the ages of six and 15 to dedicate the planting of the tree on the Center’s ground.  Afterwards, the wives and kids will decorate small plastic pots with paint, glitter, stickers, felt and more. Two larger flower pots will also be decorated together and auctioned off in October at the Whaley’s Fundraising Gala.

Whaley Children’s Center, which was named as the 2008 PGA Tour Charity of the Year, serves abused and neglected children throughout the State of Michigan between the ages of five and 17. The Center serves resilient youth, teaching them how to succeed as individuals and providing them with the tools they need to reach their full potential.

The Whaley Children’s Center assists the Buick Open each year, operating the tournament’s “Will Call” office. Since 1982, various southeast Michigan charities have received more than $10 million from funds raised by the Buick Open, and in turn, many of the charitable organizations provide volunteer help by handling such activities as transportation and ticket sales. The 2009 Buick Open will be held Monday-Sunday, July 27-August 2.

PGA Tour Wives Association, Inc. was incorporated in 1988 by wives of the professional golfers on the PGA Tour.
