Richard Wins GAM Senior Tournament of Club Champions

GRAND BLANC -- John RIchart (Ann Arbor), 64, was the men’s champion at the inaugural GAM Senior Tournament of Club  Champions at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club Wednesday. Richart shot a one-under-par 71 and edged runner-up Ian Harris (Bloomfield Hills) by one stroke.

“Ian Harris had a chance to tie me on the last hole,” said Richart. “I double bogeyed and he bogeyed so that’s how it ended. That just shows that golf can be a very humbling game.”

Richart, 64, had six birdies for the day. Despite the rain overnight and early in the day, Richart said Warwick Hills was in amazing shape.

“The greens were spectacular,” said Richart, who was the club champion at Barton Hills Country Club. “I think they were the best I’ve played all year. It was pretty wet out there but I think you would be hard pressed to find a course in that great of shape. “

As he raised the trophy, Richart said he was thrilled to win the event that allows club champions from GAM member golf clubs to compete against each other and also excited to have an opportunity to play so well at a premiere golf course.

“It was thrilling to have a venue such as Warwick Hills,” said Richart. “I think everyone enjoyed playing there.”
