Ryan Brehm and Jamie Lovemark added to Field for the 2009 Buick Open

Jamie Lovemark 2009 Buick OpenGRAND BLANC - Mount Pleasant’s Ryan Brehm and USC standout Jamie Lovemark are the latest players to get added into the field for the 2009 Buick Open coming to Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, July 27-August 2. Both were recently announced by the tournament as being confirmed to play via sponsor’s exemptions.

“The field is getting interesting with so many world-class names committed early, and we are delighted to add Brehm and Lovemark to the mix,” said Robb Grainger, Buick Open tournament director.  “Both have had some great early successes and will be exciting to watch this tournament.”

Brehm, a former Michigan State star and current NGA Hooters Tour player, claimed his first professional win at the Michigan Open last month.  The 2007 Michigan Amateur champion was part of three Big Ten Championship teams at MSU and won three state high school individual titles. He still ranks first all-time in MSU history with a 73.26 career stroke average.

At the 2005 Buick Open, Brehm fired a 67 in qualifying to finish tied for third and earn an at-large bid making him the first amateur to make the cut since 1966.  He shot a 294 (71-69-77-77) that year to finish 79th.

While this is Brehm’s second appearance at the Buick Open, it marks the first for Lovemark, who is turning pro this summer.

The USC phenom captured an NCAA championship in 2007, the same year he was named both National Player of the Year and National Freshman of the Year. He has competed in eight PGA Tour events (making the cut in five of them) with his best finish to date coming at the 2007 Buick Invitational where he tied for 39th. He has also made the cut in two of three Nationwide Tour events thus far, including a second-place finish as an amateur at the 2007 Rochester event.

Lovemark, a former No. 1-ranked player according to the World Amateur Golf Rankings, has collected multiple collegiate/amateur titles including being named a Ping All-America 1st team (2007, 2008), the 2007 Pac-10 co-golfer of the Year, and the 2005 Western Amateur Champion.  He has also earned his place as a U.S. Eisenhower Trophy Team Member (2008), a Palmer Cup Team Member (2007) and with an undefeated 3-0 record in 2007, a spot as a U.S. Walker Team Member.

Lovemark, who hails from Torrey Pines High in San Diego, played in the 2006 Western Open on the PGA Tour before enrolling at USC. Before joining USC, he was ranked among the Top 10 golfers in the country as part of Golfweek.com’s top-ranked recruiting class.

The 2009 Buick Open field will compete for a record $5.1 million purse, including a $918,000 first prize.
