Old Corkscrew Golf Club - Extraordinary Golf in the Florida Tradition

Old Corkscrew Golf ClubIn the two years since it has opened, the accolades have poured in for Old Corkscrew. Since late February of 2007 when the legendary Jack Nicklaus played 18 holes in a course opening exhibition round, the club has been recognized with four prestigious awards: the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) named Old Corkscrew its 2008 Florida Course of the Year; Golf Digest placed Old Corkscrew Golf Club on its prestigious list of America’s Best New Courses; Golf Magazine listed it as one of the “Best Courses Near You” and Zagat Golf Guide included the club in its 2009 edition of America’s Top Golf Courses.

And then to top that off, Old Corkscrew lured Southwest Florida’s best known golf instructor to relocate his golf academy to the site. In January, 2008, Mike Calbot, better known as Southwest Florida’s Golf Doctor, relocated his International Golf Studio and TRIAD Golf Schools to Old Corkscrew. Calbot has more than 38 years of teaching experience and has been giving golf lessons in Southwest Florida since 1978.

He is widely known for his golf tips program which has aired on WINK-TV for more than 25 years and he travels the world conducting trick shot exhibitions and golf clinics. The golf studio offers private and small group instruction with a focus on video lessons.

Old Corkscrew Golf Club

Old Corkscrew is pure golf – no residential homes surround the 18-hole Nicklaus Signature-designed golf course. Located on Corkscrew Road between Fort Myers and Naples on 275 magnificently wooded acres, the course is carved from the natural terrain of native oaks towering slash pines and native vegetation. The undulating greens rise 10 to 20 feet above the fairways, creating stunning and serene vistas of adjacent farmlands, though with sometimes challenging pin placements.

The par-72 championship golf course is the only Signature Nicklaus Design non-residential course in Southwest Florida, which is the highest standard of design offered by Nicklaus Design and includes Jack Nicklaus’ personal oversight and involvement in every step of the design and construction. The Championship layout plays 7,400 yards. Each Nicklaus-designed course is unique, but certain aspects are present in all of them – well-balanced holes that vary in direction, look and feel, so that one type of golfer isn’t favored over another and a layout that rewards golfers who make careful club selections.
