Saturday blog Kathy Perrott second hole Ace Classic

Players were greeted by a large group of fans running from the tee to the green and even by fans in boats out on the 800 acre man made lake adjacent to the second green and multiple other holes. The boat fans created quite a site as they appeared very close to land watching the action on the second green.

John Cook delighted the fans by chipping in for a birdie on the 210 yard par 3. Peter Jacobson, a hometown favorite also birdied the hole.

Hale Irwin ran into trouble when his tee shot landed some 25 fee from the green. his second shot failed to land on the green and he walked off with a bogie.

Tom Kite and Tom Pernice landed their tee shots inches apart and both missed the birdie putts by inches as on moved to the left of the hole and the other putt moved to the right, confusing both players.

Bobby Watkins and Mike Goodes followed the Kite Pernice shots and ended up with their golf balls touching each other on the green about 30 feet from the hole, after their tee shots.

Dana Quigley received a nice read from his caddy, his son, only to leave his ball short of the hole by an inch.

When landing past the hole the putts became increasingly difficult.  Hal Sutton was one of the few who ended up on top of the green with a 20 footer for birdie which he promptly sank and got off the hole as fast as he could.

Weibring, Sluman and Mize were the first threesome to land on the green and where two of the three made par.

Fred Funk found himself with a different caddie and his wife took over the bag from his son.  He landed short of the green but ended up with a nice par.

Last but not least Nick Price, another crowd pleaser ended up with a birdie to which he received applause and cheers as he walked off the green to the next hole.

When it came to the leaders, Cochran, O’Meara and Langer the hole proved to be pretty successful as Langer made birdie to go 10 under and O’Meara dunked one to go to 8 under on this outstanding Florida day.

The second hole at the Quarry is one of the best spots on the course to watch all the golfers in action. This viewer had an outstanding spot on a small hill just outside the ropes and up on a small hill over looking the green.  As they say after the party and after the golf match, “a good time was had by all”.
