ACE Classic Pre-Qualifier

Today at Old Corkscrew Golf Club, sixty-three players participated in the Ace Classic Group PGA Champions Tour Pre-Qualifier. The field of players competed for one of five spots, who would advance to the next step, the Event Qualifier. Overcoming the early - steady morning rain and the lower temperatures that followed, Gary Trivisonno shot 73 to take home low honors. Lee Chill, Joseph Boyle and Jim Roy finishing one shot back at 74.

With only one spots remaining, four players who had all tied with rounds of 75,  headed for the playoff that started on the challenging par 4, 10th hole. On the first extra hole, Robert Niger and James Karr were eliminated. On the second extra hole, Terence Burke hit a brilliant third shot within two feet that resulted in birdie that distinguished Robert Gaus hopes of advancing.

On Monday (February 14, 2011) Trivisonno, Chill, Boyle, Roy and Burke who all advanced, will now square off against forty-nine other players. Many of these players are seasoned veteran's that in past year's competed regularly on the PGA Tour. Having now turned 50, these players whose career money earnings or tournament wins fall short of being an exempt player on PGA Champions Tour, are now forced to compete in weekly event qualifiers. Early speculation, the field of fifty-four players will be vying for five playing spots.

Depending on the results of this weeks PGA Champions Tour event which is taking place in Southeast Florida, the field may include: Dick Mass, James Mason, Bobby Clampett, Trevor Dodds, RW Eaks, Jay Delsing, Tom Byrum, etc. At Old Corkscrew Golf Club on Monday, tee times begin at 8:00 am.
