Alan Morin Named 2011 Player of the Year

PGA Assistant Professional wins honor for the 6th time

Alan MorinATLANTIS, FL – Alan Morin, an Assistant Professional at The Falls Country Club in Lake Worth, has been named the 2011 South Florida PGA Player of the Year for an unprecedented 6th time. His previous Player of the Year honors for the South Florida PGA Section came in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008.

Morin tallied 1602 Player of the Year points in 2011, earned through strong finishes in several SFPGA stroke-play events. Alan’s finishes included a win at the South Florida PGA Professional Championship, the Southeast Classic and the South Florida Open.

Alan’s Player of the Year honor earned him an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s 2012 Honda Classic in March at PGA National Resort & Spa.

Morin’s game has come a long way from when he picked up his first club at age 14, one his grandfather had taken from his own bag and cut down so that Alan could practice chipping and putting in his backyard. Growing up in Somers, Connecticut, Alan’s high school did not have a golf team. In fact, his family had to petition so that he could turn in his individual scores by mirroring a neighboring high school’s golf schedule. Once the petition passed, though, he was off and running, qualifying for his state high school golf tournament both his Junior and Senior years.

Alan went on to play college golf at Ferris State University for three years, and it was there he determined that his career path was to include a job within the golf industry. Morin became a PGA member in 1996 and took his first job as an Assistant PGA Professional at Cypress Links (now The Dye Preserve). Following that job, Alan took up as an Assistant Professional at Banyan Golf Club where he worked for 5 ½ years, leading to his current position as the Assistant PGA Professional at The Falls Country Club where he has worked for the past 11 years.

Along the way, Alan saw much success as a player, both at the local and national levels. He has played in 4 PGA Championships and 2 US Opens, was a member of the victorious 2003 PGA Cup Team (USA v. Great Britain & Ireland) and has had impressive finishes in the PGA Professional National Championship, finishing 9th in ‘02, 7th in ‘03,13th in ‘05, and 105th in ‘08; He played sporadically on the Gateway Tour in 2005 and 2006, sponsored by several club members at The Falls Country Club; Additional resume builders include his participation in a handful of PGA TOUR and Nationwide Tour events, including the Ford Championship, The Honda Classic and the Miccosukee Championship, with two cuts made at The Honda and another two at the Miccosukee Championship. As the unprecedented 5-time winner of the South Florida PGA Player of the Year award, Alan is no stranger to success, but he also knows he has a lot for which to be thankful.
