Mike Dopslaff of Naples Named 2011 SFPGA Merchandiser of the Year - Public Category

Mike-DopslaffATLANTIS, FL – Arrowhead Golf Course’s PGA General Manager Mike Dopslaff has been named the 2011 South Florida PGA Merchandiser of the Year in the Public Category. This award is presented to the PGA Member that has demonstrated superior skills as merchandisers in the promotion of golf with a focus on the individual's inventory, shop display, staff, and merchandising techniques at a resort facility.

A PGA member since 1984, Mike is well known for his merchandising skills and techniques, recognized twice already as a South Florida Section Merchandiser of the Year, a Chapter Merchandiser of the Year five times, the SW Chapter Golf Professional of the Year in 2007, the SW Chapter Player of the Year for four years and more.

Mike strives to keep his merchandise at Arrowhead Golf Course of high quality and in high demand. He has a variety of techniques to help him do so. “Our techniques include constant rotation and display changes, as well as offering lines not available in other shops. We like to bundle merchandise with golf specials, lunch specials, and promote add on sales wherever possible. We try to keep it (visually) different all the time and change displays within our hot spots to keep it moving,” says Mike.

Arrowhead Golf Course has a reputation for consistent and competitively low prices. The Golf Shop at Arrowhead Golf Course stocks a wide array of golf-related items, including balls, gloves, clubs, shoes and apparel. “Our goal for merchandising our facility is to always exceed our customer’s expectation in everything we do and provide a tremendous value. We cater to the daily fee player, and make sure they know our prices are not inflated ,” says Mike.

When asked what it takes to be a successful merchandiser, Mike advises, “I would advise other merchandisers to pay close attention to others that have had success. Don’t be afraid to take risks, and if the opportunity arises to own your own shop, jump on it! Be there, be visible, and pay attention to detail. Be careful with your end of season sales, your customers tend to wait for them to make their purchases if you become too predictable.”

Mike Dopslaff, along with the ten (10) other South Florida PGA Annual Award winners, will be recognized at the SFPGA Awards Night held November 8th at Parkland Golf and Country Club.
