The Importance of Clubfitting and How It Works

By Frank Campanelli, CPGA Head Professional

Your Golf Clubs are an investment in the future of your game. Without being properly fit for your golf clubs you may be making a bad investment decision. Get fit by one of our trained clubfitting specialists and do not be afraid to ask questions. The Professionals and Clubfitting specialists have been trained by some of the best Clubfitter’s in the world and we are here to pass on our knowledge and expertise to ensure golfers and patrons of the Deer Creek Academy continue to improve their game.

The Professionals of The Academy have come up with a five step process to determine the proper variables that are required to improve the enjoyment of your game and equipment.

Step 1.
Personal Interview
The Deer Creek Academy Clubfitting center starts all of our fittings with a personal interview. Some questions that will be asked are: How long have you been playing golf? Do you have any physical limitations? What is your handicap? What are your strongest attributes regarding your game? What are your weakest and what are your goals?

Step 2.
Measurements of Your Existing Clubs

We will take a look at length, loft, Lie angle, grip size and shaft flex. In some cases the golfer will be playing with the right equipment and might want to capitalize on the type of materials used today in the creation of golf equipment.

Step 3.
Swing Analysis

All of our trained Professional and Specialists will observe your swing speed, swing path, clubface angle and tempo. We will have you hit several balls to warm up observe any tendencies that might be contributing to bad swing faults.

Step 4.
Dynamic Testing

We will use different apparatuses to examine proper lie angle which determines the direction the ball takes, shaft length, and shaft stiffness which determine launch angle and ball flight.

Step 5.
Grip Sizing

Many people are not aware that you can have your golf grip sized to fit you and that it plays a major role in your ball flight and direction. By altering the size and material of your grips, you can fix your slice or hook and add yards to your game.

With so many important variables involved in properly fit clubs, the golfer now has the ability to form their clubs around their swing. By going through one of our clubfitting sessions, your next golf purchase will be suited to your body size and swing style. You can leave one of our fitting sessions with an understanding of your golf swing and what variables have been changed to suit you, the golfer.

Our fitting sessions cost $50.00 and last approximately one hour. If you decide to purchase a set of golf clubs, the cost of the fitting will automatically come off the price of the golf equipment selected.

“The Professionals and Fitting Specialists of The Deer Creek Academy are dedicated to the improvement and overall enjoyment of your game”.
