Tiger Woods to Defend Memorial Title

Tiger Woods will defend his Memorial title May 31 - June 6Despite an admission via his website that he's not 100 percent healthy, Tiger Woods will defend his Memorial title May 31 - June 6 at Muirfield Village. Woods has won the event hosted by Jack Nicklaus four times, including last year's one-stroke victory over Jim Furyk.

Woods was last seen walking off the course at The Players May 9 due to what was discovered to be an inflamed facet joint in his neck.

"The doctors advised me to take a week off and rest, which I did," said Woods. "They prescribed physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication and soft-tissue massages, which I'm continuing with. Although I'm not 100 percent, I feel much better and look forward to competing next week."

This will be Woods' fourth tournament since returing to the PGA Tour after taking time off in attempt to mend his marriage and seek treatment for sex addiction. He tied for fourth at The Masters and missed the cut at the Quail Hollow Championship before withdrawing from The Players.

Woods has recorded seven top 10 finishes at Muirfield Village and has never missed the cut. He is the only four-time winner of the Memorial and holds the only sub-70 scoring average in Tournament history at 69.53.

“We are pleased to learn of Tiger’s return to defend his 2009 Memorial title,” said Executive Director Dan Sullivan. “Over the years Tiger has played well here, and, of course, central Ohio fans very much enjoy seeing him compete. Tiger is one of the biggest stars in all of sport, and he brings significant attention to any event he enters. All involved with the Memorial look forward to hosting Tiger as one of the 120 professionals in this year’s field.”

In conjunction with the announcement of Tiger Woods’ commitment the Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley will continue to make All-week Patron Badges available for purchase to the general public through Sunday, May 30. The badges are priced at $155 per person and include a complimentary any day Practice Round ticket at no extra cost.
