Celebrating Golf at Every Level

Celebration Golf ClubThere are only 17 golf courses in the country boasting a 5-Star rating from Golf Digest’s Places to Play. None of them are in Florida. For now. Celebration Golf Club, in the renowned Disney master-planned community of Celebration, is one of the few in the Sunshine State who can claim 4-1/2 stars, but they now believe they’ve got the elements in place to achieve that 5th star. As this club with so many unique features, beginning with its rare design collaboration of Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and his son RTJ, Jr., begins its second decade, Celebration has made a renewed commitment to its already award-winning experience in an effort to join the nation’s elite golf courses.

You’ll notice the difference from the moment you arrive at the farm-style clubhouse with the landmark windmill. Celebration Golf Club has always felt like “home” for visiting golfers, and that experience is being enhanced with the addition of brick pavers to replace the concrete throughout the area around the clubhouse, matching the beautiful engraved bricks in the Friendship Circle under the gazebo next to the Tournament Terrace with its scoreboard and gathering area for outings that still receive Celebration’s renowned Red Carpet tournament service, including a charitable partnership program that provides all the help you’ll need to maximize the success of your charity outing.

Celebration Golf Club Orlando, FlCelebration’s “family” atmosphere has been a priority since the club opened just over a decade ago. In fact, to celebrate their 10th anniversary, everyone who played the course over the last year was invited to sign one of three giant flags commemorating the occasion, and autographs on the flags include future Hall of Famer Roger Clemens and PGA TOUR stars Rich Beem and Robert Gamez. Gamez still holds a celebrity Pro-Am the Monday after the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, having fun and raising funds for his foundation, which has committed signifi cant resources to Celebration’s Junior Program, taking the philosophies of the First Tee to the next level by offering disabled youngsters no-charge instruction and playing privileges, and a clubhouse where they’re exposed to specialized reading programs as well.

Commitment to service is obvious before you hit your opening tee shot at Celebration Golf Club, with brand new golf carts featuring the latest version of the dash-mounted Uplink GPS and a new staging area at the first tee. But once you do tee it up, you’ll be amazed by the quiet, in a place that’s so close to so much. It’s your group, and a pristine environment. The landscaping is spectacular, much of it natural with native marshes, grasses, pines and old oaks draped with Spanish moss that are home for a vast array of wildlife that truly makes this a celebration of nature as well. One of the challenges, and rewards, of playing Celebration is that even though much of the layout suggests a target-style plan of attack, there are two or three ways to play every hole, and the more you play the course, the better you’ll understand what the Jones’ had in mind.

Celebration Golf ClubThe course doesn’t overpower you with its length, but the pros who play in Gamez’ Pro-Am say Celebration might be the “longest 6,800 yards you’ll ever play”. John Daly holds the course record at 63. Though there’s only one par-4 on each side over 400 yards from the tips, there’s plenty of trouble to celebrate conquering, with water on 17 of the 18 holes, renovated bunkers, and newly bulkheaded greens that have been returned to the original Jones design. Each nine has a fabulous fi nish, the front side with three progressively shorter, yet similarly treacherous par-4s, where the bunkers are actually your best targets. On the three finishing holes of the back side, water comes into play if you hit short, or long. The key to scoring at Celebration is “don’t be greedy”. Find your most comfortable distance to approach the greens and hit your drives to that distance. From air-conditioned rest rooms on the course to new target greens at the doubleended aqua driving range, Celebration’s commitment to quality and customer service doesn’t end with a fi ne “howdo-you-do” and a challenging, yet fun-to-play golf course. The Celebration Golf Academy not only supports an amazingly successful Junior Program, but the instructors are passionate about improving your game within your own swing style. Its success is measured by smiling faces all around the course, and the National Golf Course Owners Association’s Player Development Award in 2006. From their “Golf 101” program combining weekly instruction, on-course lessons and discounted greens fees, to private lessons to group and corporate instructional programs, the Golf Academy can’t wait to help you enjoy your game more.

Celebration Golf Club Orlando, FlThere’s even a three hole short-game course right outside the clubhouse, but adults are only allowed to play it accompanied by a young golfer. Celebration’s longstanding commitment to young players can be seen every day, and on special occasions like the annual Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip and Putt National Championships hosted at Celebration and televised on the Golf Channel Thanksgiving weekend. New furniture and fresh paint have revitalized the distinctive clubhouse with its delightful Windmill Restaurant and historic Jones Room filled with memorabilia from the first family of golf design. Celebration Golf ClubThe facility and services are all there for a 5-Star event, whether it’s a golf tournament, a meeting of just about any size, or one of the many wedding celebrations hosted by Celebration every year on the “East Lawn”.Celebration’s motto for years has been “Celebrating Golf at Every Level.” With their new ownership committed to raising the bar even higher, “reaching for the star” if you will, they think you’ll appreciate the unique experience of Celebration even more the more you play it.
