Celebration Golf Club to Host 10th Annual Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt Tournament Aug. 30

CELEBRATION, Fla. --- Celebration Golf Club and the Golf Channel will host the national championship rounds of the 10th Annual Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 30 starting at 9 a.m.

Gene Garrote, vice president and general manager at Celebration Golf Club, said the Celebration tournament marks the climax of the Golf Channel’s 2008 Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt Tournament season.

“The Drive, Chip & Putt Tournament visited 52 metropolitan cities throughout the United States since its start at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens on April 5,” Garrote said. “Celebration Golf Club will host the culmination of this national tour.”

Garrote said the tournament provides a meaningful experience for kids of all golfing abilities.

The program, which was open to junior golfers of all skill levels aged seven to 14, included four age divisions and three categories: driving, chipping and putting.

“The top three junior golfers in each age division from local championships advanced to one of 16 regional championships, and the winners of those tournaments will be competing in the national championships on Aug. 30 at Celebration Golf Club,” Garrote said.

The 2008 tournament marks Celebration’s third year as the site of the national championships, Garotte said.

Ranked 4-1/2 stars in Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play,” Celebration Golf Club is home to the Robert Gamez Invitational Tournament to benefit the Robert Gamez Foundation. Celebration also has hosted national tournaments including the USGA Senior Open and USGA Senior Amateur Qualifiers, the Florida State Public Links Championship and the Buick Scramble National Championships.
