The Ritz-Carlton

The Ritz-Carlton Members ClubIt is easy to have good shots on a golf course where there are no bad holes. It’s also easy to get accustomed to having a professionally trained caddy measure the yardage, read the greens, repair the divots, rake the bunkers and even provide a little strategy for your game. Golf, like life, is easier if you have someone behind you to help you along the way, and anticipate your every need. And although that doesn’t happen often in life, it does at The Ritz-Carlton Members Club, where the philosophy is to make life easy, relaxing and enjoyable by providing the ultimate in service.

Located off University Parkway and Lorraine Road, just east of I-75, on 315 acres of pristine rolling landscape, this very player-friendly course is magnificently sculpted to reflect the natural beauty of its environment. Renouned golf course architect Tom Fazio moved an estimated 1.9 million cubic yards of earth to create five to 40-foot elevation changes. The earth moving also shaped an extensive system of picturesque lakes and wetlands that wind through the property.

Many holes feature downhill tee shots to elevated fairways and greens while several holes climb into the green, creating a very distinct look for a Sarasota setting. Mass plantings of colorful flowering shrubs, including several tee boxes abloom with roses, and mounds lined with bougainvillaea create a formal look that contrasts creatively with informal native grass areas, marshes with aquatic plants, and mature oak trees. The variety of holes and visual excitement beckons the golfer on to see what is beyond the next bend.

“This will be a terrific walking course, with very reasonable connections between the greens and tees.” says Fazio. "With six tee positions, from championship lengths of 7,549 yards to the forward stretch of 5,175 yards, golfers of all skill levels can choose a course length that will challenge them.”

“The strong low handicap player will want to attack the direct lines of play. But for the higher handicapper, we're creating options and varieties around strong hazards.” The experience is total golf. No homes will encroach the fairways, while Fazio’s creative use of mounding and plantings gives the golfer the self-contained illusion of being the only player on the course.
