Chip shots 12/1/11

Jodi Ewart of Sarasota and Ginger Howard of Bradenton are tied for fifth after the first round of the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament at Daytona Beach.

They shot a pair of 70s. Ewart practices at Palm-Aire and Howard goes to IMG Academies. The Tournament began Wednesday and runs through Sunday. Other Bradenton golfers competing are Victoria Tanco (74), Hannah Yun (76) and Jaclyn Sweeney (76).   Kristin Walla of Aspen, Colo., also posted a 76. Her caddie is Eddie Bass of Sarasota.

---  Ramsey Touchberry of Bradenton finished tied for second in the recent Florida Junior Tour event in Dunnellon. James Leadbetter of Bradenton placed sixth.   

--- Christian Martin will be conducting a junior golf school at the Bobby Jones Golf Club Dec. 19-21. Time:  9-11 a.m. for ages 7-10 years, 1-3 p.m. for ages 11-15 years. Cost:  $60 per student. Space is limited to six golfers per session. To register, call the golf shop, 941-365-2200, ext. 5805.

---   Barry O’Sullivan, who once played Class AA minor league baseball with the Chicago White Sox, recorded his first hole-in-one Tuesday at the River Club in Manatee County. The Mote Ranch resident used a 7-iron to make the ace on the 140-yard eighth hole.  A 21-handicapper, O’Sullivan shot an 88.
