Chip shots 2/22/12

Kudos go to Bradenton’s Jessica Korda who won the Australian Open for her first victory as a pro.

Korda, who is in her sophomore season on the LPGA Tour, trains and plays at the The Founders Cub in Sarasota.

-- Some golfers handle the wind better than others. Sarasota's Devin Spies shot a 66 to take the first-round lead last Saturday in the Lakewood Ranch Open on the Tony Jacklin West Florida Golf Tour.

Then, he soared to a 76 to finished tied for 17th.

Charlie Delsman came from four strokes behind in the final round to overtake Scott Berliner Sunday afternoon and win the tournament and $3,000, the largest purse on the young tour.

Delsman posted two four-under par 68's.  With most of the field breaking par on Saturday in very calm conditions, the course fought back unleashing wind gusts of 40 mph, hampering the players' ability to get comfortable.

Vince India also carded a 68 in the final round to finish in solo second.  Seath Lauer of Lakewood Ranch tied for fourth (69-70 --- 139).

David Brown and Greg Shires won the City Bradenton Senior Two-Man Championship last weekend by one stroke over Chris Muscara and Jim Stone at the River Run Golf Links

--- Rosedale assistant pro Kyle O'Connor is offering the Explanar training aide. --- Do you recognize the name, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano? No, probably not. Fernandez-Castano is a five-time European Tour winner, but he could become a household name after Wednesday if he upsets Tiger Woods in the first round of the Accenture Match Play Championship at Dove Mountan in Arizona. The Spaniard is a 12th seed. Woods is 5th.
