Darbyshire new head pro at Jacaranda West

Gavin Darbyshire is going back Venice, where it all started for him.

Jacaranda West Country Club in Venice has announced the selection of Darbyshire as its new head golf professional.

Darbyshire, a Class A member of the Professional Golfer's Association of America, will be returning to Jacaranda West CC where he served as assistant golf professional in 1991- 1992.

"I was a caddie at Jacaranda when the club opened in 1975," said Darbyshire. "Julius Boros played in the grand opening tournament."

His area of expertise is private club member service. He also possesses extensive experience in the areas of member recruitment, tournament operations and golf instruction. He is a graduate of Venice High School (1979) and Florida International University's School of Hospitality Management.

Previously, Darbyshire served Sara Bay Country Club for 18 years in various capacities including director of membership sales, director of golf / general manager, head golf professional and assistant golf professional.

His brother, Charlie Darbyshire, is the head golf pro at Sarasota National in Venice.

Darbyshire will begin his new duties after Christmas.
