Duval to Help SFC

Jim Duval has been a successful golf pro for 41 years, 25 of which were at Mission Valley Golf and Country Club in Nokomis.

He retired from Mission Valley this past year but hasn’t retired from helping his golfing friends.

Duval will chair the Seventh Annual Swinging With Friends Golf Tournament to benefit Senior Friendship Centers Sept. 22 on the Plantation Golf and Country Club’s Bobcat Course.

Golf has been a big part of his life practically from birth. His father was a PGA member for 50 years, and his brother Bob, a longtime pro at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, also played on the Champions Tour for five years.

His nephew is David Duval, the former No. 1 player in the world and winner of the 2001 British Open.

“Jim Duval’s expertise, experience and reputation will be a great asset to our tournament,” said Senior Friendship Centers Board Vice Chairman Dr. Richard Beebe, a longtime friend. “We are honored that he has agreed to chair this event.”

Duval was instrumental in the first Swinging With Friends Tournament in 2005, held at Mission Valley Golf & Country Club.

“We’re looking forward to an exciting new approach this year,” Duval said.

There will be two-man or two-woman teams, and gross and net scores within flights. Registration will be at 7:30 a.m. with 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

The golf fee is $80 per person, $160 per team (two golfers), including golf and lunch. Persons wishing to attend the lunch and awards ceremony only, may do so for $20.

Golfers can download registration forms at www.friendshipcenters.org. For reservations or sponsorship information, call 941-556-3205.
