Golden, Schneider Defend State 4-ball Title

By Mark Cardon

Wow, what a comeback! The defending champion team of Wendy Golden and Ericka Schneider of Bradenton trailed the leaders by three strokes going into Sunday’s final round of the Florida State Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City.

In the final round the duo was down by four strokes after hole 14 and then came back by making birdies on the last five holes to win the tournament by one stroke.

They shot a 7-under-par 65 and were 10-under par at 134. Alexander Milam of Lutz and Kaitlyn Price of Jacksonville finished second. This awesome comeback rivals Keegan Bradley shooting a 64 on Sunday to overtake Jim Furyk in the Bridgestone Invitational Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

Ericka Schneider, a Lakewood Ranch High School grad, is the 2012 Women’s Stroke Play Champion and will be a senior at Ole Miss this fall. Golden is the Executive Director of the Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association. The championship was a warm up for Golden and Schneider, as they will be participating again as Four-Ball partners at the 2012 Inaugural Southeastern Challenge Matches, August 13-14.
