Local pro qualifies for Futures Tour at 51

LPGA teaching pro Cathy Schmidt, who runs a Golf Boot Camp at Timber Creek Golf Club in Bradenton, has qualified for the LPGA Futures Tour at age 51.

She will be eligible to play the 54-hole LPGA Symetra Classic of Sara Bay Country Club. Starting Jan. 1, Symetra will be the sponsor for the LPGA Futures Tour.   

Symetra Classic of Sara Bay will be the second stop on the 2012 LPGA Futures Tour and will be held April 16-22.  It will be the first pro golf tournament to be held in the Sarasota-Bradenton area since the LiquidGolf.com Invitational at TPC at Prestancia in 2000.

The three-day tournament will have a field of 144 golfers, playing for a purse of $100,000. The winner will collect a check of $15,000.
