Longboat tennis pro makes ace

With the Sarasota Open, a pro tennis tournament, coming up at the Longboat Key Club at the end of April, I thought I would ask Director of Tennis John Woods for a lesson.

After all, he must be doing something right. He’s been at the club for nearly 30 years.

Well, as it turns out, I may have to book him for a tennis and golf lessons.

Woods, a 24-handicapper, made his first hole-in-one on March 26 on the 148-yard No. 3 hole of the Blue Heron course at Harbourside.

He used a 7 iron. The ace was witnessed by playing partners Terry Gans, Jeff Lenobel and Michael Welly. The course was re-designed by Ron Garl in 2005.
