McKitrick Reaches 176 Titles

By Mark Cardon

Wind, rain and cool temperatures in Scotland did not deter Arlene McKitrick from winning her 176th career title.

“It was the most severe playing conditions I think I have ever experienced,” she said. “St. Andrews had two-and-a-half months of non-stop rain. My practice round was under driving rain, wind and cold temperatures. The fairways were so under water that each step through the boggy grass felt like the suction would pull off your golf shoes.”

Despite the inclement weather, the Longboat Key senior golfer prevailed. There were 150 men and women from 11 countries competing at St. Andrews. Arlene and two men were the only golfers to shoot in the 70’s because of the challenging courses and difficult playing conditions.
