by Mark Cardon

David and Jeremy Perna are serving notice that they are difficult team to beat.

This past weekend, David, a good Sarasota amateur, and Jeremy, a high school sophomore to be, won the Florida State Golf Association’s Parent-Child 18-under Championship at Walt Disney World.

They posted rounds of 64-65 --- 129 and won by three strokes.

Last October, the father-son team finished third in the City of Sarasota Better Ball Championship at Bobby Jones Golf Club. In May of 2011, Jeremy, then an eighth grader at Sarasota Middle School, hit a 7-iron into the cup on the par-3, 145-yard hole No. 3 at Capri Isles in Venice for a hole-in-one. Joe and Drew Angelo of Sarasota had rounds of 27-28 --- 5 to finish second in the 10-12 age division.

Joe is the head pro at Heritage Oaks. In other FSGA news, the North Team claimed the 7th Junior Florida Cup at The Old Collier Golf Club in Naples earning 21 points to the South Team’s 11 points. The tournament was played Monday and Tuesday of this week.

The North Team included Emma Albrecht, Tyler Bakich, Mary Dawson, Dustin Dingus, Luis Gagne, Pureun Kim, Logan Lanier, Gabriel Lench, Summer Moser, Anna Newell, Madison Opfer, Kevin Reilly, Latanna Stone, Ryan Stovash, Travis Trace and Andy Zhang, who was the youngest player in this past June’s U.S. Open.
