Pope Golf names 2 new pros

Keith Pope has lured two of his old pals to help manage Buffalo Creek and the Manatee County Course. Both championship courses recently have come under management of Pope Golf of Sarasota.

Ken Powell is the new general manager/head pro at Manatee County, and Pete Huber has a similar job at Buffalo Creek. Both worked with Pope at Troon North in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Both bring over 25 years experience of being PGA pros. Huber also is a master professional, one of just a few in the area.

Prior to taking the Manatee County post, Powell was the director of golf at Freemont Park in the San Francisco Bay area.  Huber, who once played in the Tucson Open, was the director of instruction for the U.S. Golf Academies in Phoenix, Ariz.

"Pete is a very good player," said Pope.

In addition, Pope announced that Manatee County, Buffalo Creek and Sarasota Golf Club have been combined into an attractive membership package. Until Oct. 15, golfers can purchase an annual membership for the three courses for $1,495 plus tax. It includes unlimited golf with carts. After Oct. 15, that price goes to $1,895 plus tax.
