Pope Golf receives approval

Pope Golf of Sarasota has received an approval to negotiate for the right to manage two Manatee County public golf courses, according to the Manatee County web site, mymanatee.org.

Keith Pope, who manages Sarasota Golf Club and Bent Tree Country Club, is the owner of Pope Golf, and it was one of six firms to submit a request for proposal (RFP) with Manatee County earlier this year.  The Manatee County Course and Buffalo Creek Golf Club are the two championship courses the county offered for bidding.

After reducing the short list to three, Manatee County selected Pope. The post on the county web site read:

“This top-ranked firm demonstrated exceptional qualifications and revenue share plan.
Being familiar with the Manatee County area, offering an aggressive revenue sharing plan and having a history of successful performance on similar local projects gave this firm the edge.”

The next step is for the Manatee County Commissioners to approve or reject the selection committee’s recommendation in late July.
