Rotonda Pro To Compete In Long Drive Contest

By Mark Cardon

Tyler Beasley, an assistant pro at Rotonda Golf and Country Club, has made a remarkable comeback from a serious injury and plans to compete in the RE/Max World Long Drive Regional Championship Aug. 4, in Viera.

Beasley was born and raised in Englewood and still lives there.

In October of 2010, he severely injured his back. In a little over a year after surgery, he has not only bounced back, but broken out in the golf world in a big way.

In December of 2011, he entered his first long drive event. His longest recorded drive is 403 yards. In May, he received an invitation to compete in the RE/Max World Long Drive Regional Championship with a qualifying drive of 365 yards.

Beasley is ranked 158th in the world and is tied for 28th in the current Long Drivers of America points race.

Here are some of his key stats:
* Longest drive in competition: 403 yards
* Second longest ball of 389 yards at the Alligator Alley Shoot-Out, placed 22nd
* Tennessee Shoot-Out, placed 15th, longest drive 375.
