The Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association (GSJGA) is proud to announce the 4th season of the ELITE JUNIOR TOUR (EJT).   As in past years, EJT will again host four Junior Golf Scoreboard-rated tournaments featuring top flight junior golfers playing the best golf courses in the greater Sarasota area - two Ron Garl golf courses and two Arthur Hills golf courses.

The Elite Junior Tour is open to all junior golfers - not just to GSJGA members!

Here's how it works:

TH & FR    July 14 & 15         Tara Country Club, Bradenton
TH & FR    July 21 & 22        Stoneybrook G&CC, Sarasota
TH & FR    July 28 & 29        Kingsway C.C., Lake Suzy
TH & FR    Aug 11 & 12        The Oaks Club, Osprey (Sarasota) *

Who Plays?

An EJT tournament has a maximum field of 43 players teeing off between 8 and10 a.m. ... the best 43 golfers get into the field, not necessarily the first 43 to send in entries.  Last year, there were no boys playing who had a double-digit handicap.  The maximum girls' handicap was 14.

Boys Flights    16 to 18        Play from 6,700 to 7,000 yards,
13 to 15        Play from 6,500 to 6,700 yards

Girls Flights    16 to 18        Play from 5,800 to 6,000 yards
13 to 15        Play from 5,608 to 5,800 yards

Please note that the youngest age group is 13 to 15.  If a golfer younger than 13 has a truly strong game, that player is welcomed.  Two years ago, the runner-up in the girls 13-15 was an 11-year old who shot 83-82 at The Oaks Club!

Like the past three years, Junior Golf Scoreboard points are awarded to the top finishers in each of the four flights.

A Florida Junior Tour exemption is awarded to each flight winner of each tournament, plus additional exemptions to top point getters who didn't win 1st Place exemptions.
Entry Fees:         One-time 2011 GSJGA registration fee                $25
This entitles all juniors to play in one or all 2011 tournaments - both GSJGA and Elite Junior Tour events

Each two day Elite Junior Tour tournament                $20

A junior can play in all four Elite Junior Tour tournaments and be eligible for Junior Golf Scoreboard points and for Florida Junior Tour exemptions for a total cost of $105.00 for the entire 2011 season.

How do I enter?

Go to the GSJGA website ( for your entry form. Please note that entries for each tournament close at 5 p.m. on the Monday before the EJT tournament.

Sara Bay CC is offering a new Junior Golfer Membership for juniors age 12 -19.  The cost is $450 for the annual membership.

David Leadbetter has been very involved with general manager Paul Barone in putting together the junior membership.

According to membership director Gavin Darbyshire, Leadbetter is very much behind the program, "Growing the game of golf and getting more youths involved in the sport is a huge concern in the golf industry," said Darbyshire. "To me it is not far fetched to think that Sara Bay's model providing access to a great golf experience at an affordable price during low demand times of the day could become instrumental in growing the game at other clubs throughout the country."

Other junior events at Sara Bay include the following:
-Junior Golf Camp:  June 28 - July 1
- Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association (Regular Tour):  Aug. 1
- FSGA Junior Tour (16 -18): Oct 1-2
- Donald Ross High School Invitational: Oct. 3
- Joe Turnesa Memorial Scholarship Tournament: Nov. 21
