Two Manatee County munis to go private

You would think the last place a golf course would fail would be Augusta, Ga., home of
Augusta National and the Masters.

Like many municipalities, Augusta has considered changing the operation of Augusta Municipal Golf Course, established in 1928, to a private company.
Could that happen in this area? The answer is “yes,” and it is.
Manatee County is accepting offers from private companies to manage Buffalo Creek and the Manatee County Course.
Three management companies with area ties have submitted bids to take over the courses, according to Bob Cuthbert, a purchasing official for Manatee County.
The proposals came from CKT Asset Management Company, which runs the Rolling Green Golf Club in Sarasota; Pope Golf, which manages the Bent Tree Country Club and Sarasota Golf Club; and Billy Casper Golf, which manages Misty Creek Country Club.
Cuthbert said a total of seven companies have submitted proposals, and Manatee County has scheduled an early May meeting to discuss the bids.
