The President Country Club & Hammock Creek Golf Club

Upgrades to the courses and facilities and a renewed commitment to customer service return these two legendary clubs to the top of the “must-play” list.

Take an extra club when hitting into this tricky green at the par 4, 16th.In the golf business – as in any business – there’s nothing that exerts a more immediate and profound influence on the direction it’s headed like a change in ownership and management. Such is the case with The President Country Club in West Palm Beach and Hammock Creek Golf Club in Palm City. Both are now under the aegis of Managing Partner Ray Finch, and the changes have been both immediate and profound.

“We wanted to return the typical round of golf to a true golf experience for our members and guests,” said Finch of these two renowned golf clubs, and the response to his team’s efforts have been both dramatic and encouraging.

The President offers 36 holes of championship golf: The Eagle Course, a Robert Trent Jones Jr. signature design; and The Patriot Course, a traditional parkland-styled layout with tree-lined fairways and an abundance of strategic bunkering that requires proper club selection and the ability to shape your shots on virtually every hole.

Formerly a private club but now open for daily-fee play, The President is more focused now than ever before on “door-to-door” service that truly sets it apart from many other venues. From the moment players arrive at the bag drop, through check-in, practice, food and beverage service to – most importantly – the round of golf, guests are treated to a Member for a Day experience that will live long in their golfing memories.

Playing to 6,887 yards from the tips and a manageable 5,063 yards from the forward tees, golfers on The Eagle Course are tested with water coming into play on 14 holes and waste areas that wait patiently for errant shots that wander too far left or right of the impeccably manicured fairways. Greenside bunkering leaves little room for indecision or shots that leave the face of your club without commitment and determination.

The Patriot Course at The President Country Club features 57 sand bunkers, strategically located adjacent to the pinched landing areas in the fairways and greenside in the typical bailout areas.

The Patriot Course, at 6,158 yards from the back tees and 4,893 yards from the front, for the most part offers wide fairways with well-defined landing areas, although the 57 sand bunkers, the raised and undulating greens and the water in play on 10 of the holes make this course anything but “easy” to post a score on. Indeed, golfers of every skill level will find this to be a challenging and enjoyable round of golf.

The Club’s amenities include a practice area with target greens and a short-game area for tuning up the shots you’ll need to score well here. There is a fully stocked Golf Shop, Tennis Shop, eight tennis courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a 25-meter swimming pool, and a Grille Room and Sports Bar for the “before and after” meals and libations. These outstanding facilities have made The President Country Club a regional favorite for tournaments, golf outings and parties of every sort, all prepared and presented by a team of professional event specialists.

The first course in Florida codesigned by the father-son team of Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II, Hammock Creek Golf Club, playing to 7,119 yards from the back tees, offers championship golf in a natural setting uncommon to many area golf courses. Opened in July 1996 and nominated as one of the top new public courses, this world-class layout boasts rolling, perfectly maintained fairways, multi-tiered greens and tees, a first-class practice facility and a new state-of-the-art electronic yardage system.

“While we built each hole with several tee boxes and generous fairways to make the course playable and enjoyable for golfers of all levels of ability, we were keen to install elements of “risk and reward” into the design to provide challenging tests to each player’s game,” said Jack II. “That’s my idea of a successful course design.”

The Pro Shop at the Hammock Creek features the latest in equipment, apparel and accessories, and their courteous, professional staff is always ready to help with your needs or with gifts for the lucky few on your Holiday list. The spectacular multi-function clubhouse features an elegantly furnished informal grill room, and banquet facilities are available.
