Hrynkiw Wins South Florida PGA Event in Extra Holes

JUPITER – Jason Hrynkiw sank a 24-foot birdie putt on the second extra hole Wednesday at the Loxahatchee Club to win the 15th annual Global Golf Sales-Head Professionals Championship conducted by the Southeast Chapter of the South Florida PGA Section.

Moments later, Fred Harkness missed a 10 footer to halve the hole and extend the playoff, the ball stopping a full roll short of falling into the hole.

Hrynkiw, of Gleneagles Country Club, Delray Beach, Harkness, of Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club, Jupiter, and Ryan Zug of Admiral’s Cove, Jupiter, had tied with par 72s. Zug was eliminated with bogey at the first playoff hole and Hrynkiw and Harkness advanced with routine par-4s. In regulation, Harkness and Zug each made three birdies and as many bogeys while Hrynkiw had two of apiece.

It was Hrynkiw’s second Southeast Chapter victory since he came back from California a year ago to take the job at Gleneagles. Both were at Loxahatchee, the other being the pro scratch amateur with Brad Ball.
From 1997 through 2003 while serving as an assistant at Dye Preserve, Lost Tree and Admiral’s Cove, Hrynkiw won four chapter titles and the 2002 SFPGA Assistants Championship.

“I love this place,” Hrynkiw said. “It’s a great golf course that fits my eye and it’s good to be back playing again. I’ve been pretty busy the first year at Gleneagles but now I’m looking forward to the Section Championship next week, the Chapter Championship next month and all the other opportunities we have here to play in tournaments.”

Hrynkiw, 38, received $930 from the $6,960 purse, including the optional bonus pool. There were 33 starters.
