Sabo Wins Southeast Chapter's Jupiter Classic

JUPITER, Fla. – Ed Sabo of Tequesta found his putting stroke just in time Monday, firing a six-under-par 66 to win the fourth annual Duffy’s Sports Grill/Jupiter Classic staged by the Southeast Chapter of the South Florida PGA Section at The Dye Preserve.

Sabo made seven birdies, including four in a row and five within six holes midway through the round, winning by three strokes. He received $1,000 from the $9,705 purse.

“I hadn’t been putting well,” Sabo said, citing his most recent outing, the South Florida Senior Open last week at nearby Old Trail when he shot 74-72 for 146. “But I putted so well today. I had nine one-putt greens.”

His only bogey resulted from “a stupid tee shot,” at the par-4 11th, his second hole of the day. His birdies were at Nos. 10, 16, 18, 1, 2, 3 and 6. He only missed two greens in regulation.

It was Sabo’s ninth Southeast Chapter victory dating back to the Chapter Championship in 1988.

Jerry Tucker was second among 54 starters. The teaching professional at Trump International and co-founder of the Treasure Coast Senior Tour, Tucker made four birdies and one bogey. Host professional Ryan Garrity was among three players tied for third at 71.

Next on the Southeast Chapter schedule: May 25-26, Foretees Four-Ball Match Play, McArthur GC, and June 1, Titleist Vero Beach Shootout, Hawk’s Nest GC.
