The Tides Golf Club

The Tides Golf ClubThe Tides Golf Club, overlooking beautiful Boca Ciega Bay in Seminole, has been a favorite of locals and visitors alike since 1973. “The Tides” is a throwback to an era of Florida golf that is all but forgotten. The relaxed, friendly atmosphere that reets you in the clubhouse lets you know right away that you are in for a great golf experience. The staff, headed by General Manager/Superintendent Louis deVos and PGA Head Professional Darryl Spelich, is dedicated to customer service. They know that if their golfers have fun, they’ll keep coming back.

New owners took over The Tides in December of 2005 and immediately began a comprehensive improvement program. A major tree removal effort along the shoreline adjacent to holes 2, 11, 12, 13 and 14 has opened up spectacular views of Boca Ciega Bay. As you play these holes you’ll see an incredible variety of bird life including spoonbills, cranes, egrets and herons.

The Tides Golf ClubOther improvements include: new irrigation controls throughout the course; a new reclaimed water pond between holes #14 and #16 that has dramatically improved the quality of the turf (and the difficulty of the holes); the purchase of new turf equipment and a new fleet of Club Car golf carts; and, lastly, rangers now cruise the course to assist golfers and maintain pace of play.

The clubhouse boasts newly refurbished furniture and new carpeting and the men’s and women’s locker rooms have also been given a facelift.

The Grill Room with full bar is the perfect place for relaxing after your round. The Tides is a favorite among locals, golfers and non-golfers alike, for great burgers, fresh sandwiches and salads for lunch Tuesdays through Sundays. Breakfast is served Tuesdays through Sundays as well starting at 6 a.m.

The spacious Pro Shop offers the best in equipment and apparel. You’ll find top name brands such as Bamboo Cay, Divots Sportswear, Foot-Joy, Gallant Belts, Montego Mon silk shirts, Titleist and TresBien. If it’s not in stock, it will be ordered for you.

The Tides Golf ClubOne truly unique feature of the course layout that adds to its charm is the location of the first and 10th tees. Separated by only a cart path, the back and middle tees are both hard against the south side of the clubhouse. Its the highest elevation on the property and affords spectacular views of the course, Boca Ciega Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

The par-72 golf course – which plays from 6,329 yards at the blue tees to 5,449 yards at the yellow tees – challenges players of every age and skill level. It’s tree-lined fairways and well-bunkered, elevated greens place a premium on accurate drives and precise approaches. The large greens average 6,000 square feet and feature TifDwarf Bermuda grass which is a pleasure to putt. Refreshing breezes off the bay add to the challenge and enjoyment.

The course is challenging without being overwhelming. Some might even call it “user friendly”. However, water does comes into play on 12 holes. The par-3s require a variety of shotmaking skills. Numbers 3 and 5 are short at 116 and 144 yards respectively while numbers 15 and 17 are both over 190 yards.

The four par-5s all measure under 500 yards from the blue tees. Birdie – and even eagle – opportunities abound for longer hitters. The trick is keeping your ball in play.

The Tides Golf ClubThe par-4s offer a variety of lengths and shapes. The dogleg right second is just 319 yards from the tips. However, water lurks inside the dogleg and trees guard the outside. Number 6 features a green surrounded on three sides by water.

The 415-yard thirteenth hole is long and narrow with an elevated green surrounded by the waters of Boca Ciega Bay. Number 18 is a great finishing hole. At 448 yards from the back tee, it’s the longest par-4 on the course. After a long, straight drive, you’re faced with a lengthy approach shot to an elevated green with giant oak trees guarding both sides of the fairway.
