A Message From The Chapter President

I am honored to have been elected to represent the golf professionals in the West Central Chapter of the North Florida Section of the PGA. It won’t be easy to follow in the footsteps of some great past presidents; however, with a very dedicated executive board and a goal of helping local charities, I feel we can make this upcoming year a successful one.

Several good things have already been accomplished. We are launching our Past Presidents Club, a new program that will meet periodically over the next year. Embracing those who have directed us over the years can be a great source of knowledge to tap into. There is always a lot to learn from embracing the past.

We have signed our marketing director, Bill Gilkes, for another year. Bill helped us reconnect with some of our old sponsors and also does a wonderful job in the community apart from the PGA, helping raise money for the Ryan Wells Foundation, the Shriners Hospital and the Kelly Jo Dowd Fund.

The old adage that “all golf pros do is play golf” is anything but true. Not much is publicized about how many charitable dollars local golf pros raise for their community. Here at Dunedin Country Club, we host tournaments benefi ting the Shriners Hospital, Raising Hope for Children, the Dunedin Little League, Our Lady of Lourdes church, the Children’s Christmas fund, All Children’s Hospital, the VFW, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and the list goes on. Multiply that by a couple hundred golf courses in our chapter and you quickly see how tremendous an influence we are in our communities.

In February, I will have the honor of playing golf with my very good friend Jim Cocchi and the current president of the PGA of America, Jim Remy. I look forward to the round of golf and to learning more about this great organization.

I am very excited about the upcoming year and look forward to working with all of you. – John Falcone
