Golf Tourney Held on Anniversary of Fatal Seminole Crash

Forever Friends Golf TournamentOn Saturday, April 10, 2010 the first annual Forever Friends Golf Tournament was held at the Seminole Lake Country Club in remembrance of Keith MacCollom, Joey Ruzecki, Nate Richardson and LeShawn Smith who died in a tragic car accident on April 10, 2009.

The tournament had a sold out field of golfers, who enjoyed fabulous weather, on course prizes, food and beverage. The tournament had to turn away over 80 golfers who wished to play, but simply could not be added to the field due to space limitations.

After golf was completed, there was live music performed by Carlos and Joe under the tent adjacent to the clubhouse. A raffle along with a silent auction and a live auction were also conducted. The awards ceremony and auctions were attended by more than 250 guests. The winning team of the golf tournament was sponsored by Wheelchair Transport and led by Bud Williams.

The tournament committee of the MacCollom, Ruzecki, Richardson and Lepore/Brown families, along with Seminole Lake Country Club GM Norm Haglund, Golf Pro Bruce Chaleff and Golf Advisor Jack Lima would like to thank all individuals who participated by either playing or attending the banquet as well as the countless volunteers who worked the event. Additionally, Cornerstone Bank, Finn Galleries and many local businesses and residents who made donations to the success of the event are greatly appreciated.

A special thank you is extended to the sponsors, especially the Tournaments Title Sponsor, Andrew Dunton of Autoway Ford and Gary and Amy Connors of Your Auction Inc.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Keith MacCollom Hoops and Heritage Memorial Scholarship Fund; The Joey Ruzecki Memorial Scholarship Fund; The Nate Richardson Memorial Baseball Scholarship Fund; The YMCA of Largo and the Play for Us Memorial Foundation. Although final numbers have yet to be calculated, the tournament is expected to raise approximately $50,000.

The second annual event is slated for April 9, 2011 once again at Seminole Lake CC, and the committee intends to expand the field to 200 players and conduct an all day extravaganza.
