Summer programs heat up at local driving range

BRANDON, Fla. -- Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation programs fill up fast, and some children can be left out in the cold. Now in its third year, Ace Golf is seeking to change that by offering a free summer golf practice program.

From June through August, children ages 5 to 15 can sign up to receive a free small bucket of range balls each day for the summer. Kids hit the balls on the Ace practice ranges.

“Our goal with the program is to give parents an extra avenue of enrichment for their children” says Bill Place, owner of Ace Golf in Brandon/Riverview. "The program was a huge success in 2011, we had well over 800 participants. A lot of kids programs are being cut as municipal budgets are slashed. This is a way for us to give to the community, and hopefully develop some new golfers. With over 800 buckets handed out for the program, we definitely got the word out that golf is a fun sport."

How it works:
• Children may sign up at any of five Ace Golf locations: Ace Golf Range in Brandon, Ace Golf Range in Riverview, the Pebble Creek Golf Club in New Tampa, the Wentworth Golf Club in Tarpon Springs, and the Crescent Oaks Golf Club in Tarpon Springs.
• Each child will receive a brochure detailing the program and effective dates that has a daily stamp card.
• Each time the child redeems their free bucket they will get a stamp on their card noting the redemption. No purchase is necessary.

Ace Golf Ranges are located at 820 S. Kings Avenue in Brandon and at 12910 Boyette Road in Riverview. They are open daily until 10 p.m. The facilities feature 18-acre golf practice ranges, miniature golf and batting cages. For more information, call 651-4653 or go online to www.ace-golf.com.
