Transitions Championship Draws Banner Field To Innisbrook March 16-22

Transitions Optical, based in Pinellas County, has taken over sponsorship of Tampa Bay’s PGA Tour event and the first Transitions Championship for Healthy Sight is expected to draw a banner field to the Copperhead Course at the Innis-brook Resort and Golf Club on March 16-22.

Last year, Sean O’Hair emerged victorious over a tough group of final day contenders who included Stewart Cink, Geoff Ogilvy and local favorite Ryuji Imada. O’Hair’s quest to defend his title should be even more difficult as a number of top players who missed the 2008 event are expected to play.

Last year’s FedExCup Champion Vijay Singh who won on the Copperhead Course in 2004, K.J. Choi who owns two titles in Tampa Bay, former U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk and Adam Scott are among those missing in ’08, but are expected to participate this year.

Transitions is also sponsoring 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman and veteran pro Kenny Perry who won in Phoenix on Super Bowl Sunday and both are expected in the field.

Other past champions on the Copperhead like Retief Goosen, Mark Calcavecchia and Carl Pettersson will be joined by Fred Couples, Woody Austin, Charles Howell III and many more.

“Our new position as the third week on the Florida Swing seems to be helping us, that and the outreach efforts by Transitions,” says Tournament Director Gerald Goodman. Tickets are on sale at Publix or by logging on to Transitions-Championship.com.
