MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - The 3rd edition of the Mediterranean Experience expo proved to be the most successful year yet. Industry professionals flew in from across the globe to participate in what has been acclaimed as one of North America’s most prestigious gourmet shows. Guests walked rows of fish on ice, tasted wine and cuisine samplings from the Mediterranean and listened to live music. The expo was open to industry trade May 28th - 29th and to the public, for the first time, Saturday, May 30th.
Approximately 1,100 trade members browsed over 150 exhibitor booths, solidifying Miami Beach as an international gateway for business. Industry professionals attended seminars delving into culinary and tourism topics from the Mediterranean diet to socioeconomic development, and for the first time, a forum on Spanish Olive Oil, connecting the top professionals of this industry with the U.S. market.
Show Director, Jeanette Perez held an awards ceremony heavily attended by the public, which disclosed Castelo de Medina, Verdejo 2008 D.O. Rueda as the “Best in Show,” of a two-day, three-part blind tasting challenge. Esteemed judges from coast-to-coast sampled more than 120 wines and selected Jose Pariente Verdejo D.O. Rueda; Dominio de Manciles Rosado D.O. Arlanza; ABAD Dom Bueno Roble 2003 D.O. Bierzo; Vino de Licor Moscatel La Geria, D.O. Lanzarote and Stratvs Dry Malvasia 2008 as Gold Standard qualifying wines.
